This Beautiful Land

Western Iran consists of the three corners of Kordestan, Azarbaijan, and Zanjan and is the starting point of the Zagross Mountains. The land is breathtakingly lovely, and the color red can be pretty dominant. I took this picture on our way back to Zanjan from Takhteh Soleymun.


This is a picture from Narein Castle overlooking the town of Meybod, a half hour drive north of Yazd. This castle was built over 2000 years ago with adobe bricks. Cultural Heritage tried building the same kind of bricks in order to renovate the ruins, but the bricks were too heavy. The formula for the lightweight adobe bricks is, so far, lost in history.

This is Khane-Lari, or Lari House. It belonged to the Lari family and was sold (I hope) to the government. It was completely renovated and now houses the offices of the Department of Cultural Heritage of Yazd. It is a spectacular building, made of adobe (yes, adobe). Not overly done, but yet beautifully ornamented.
